Compound Guide
What is Ipamorelin?
Clean, Selective Growth-Hormone Signaling
Ipamorelin is a pentapeptide ghrelin-receptor agonist that prompts a pulsatile release of endogenous growth hormone. Its defining trait in the literature is selectivity: unlike earlier secretagogues, it shows minimal effect on cortisol, prolactin, or appetite, which is why it is often the reference compound in GH-axis studies.
Areas of Research Interest
Summarized from published research findings. Not medical guidance or prescribing information.
Metabolic Support
Studied for shifting substrate use toward stored fat, a common endpoint in body-composition research.
Lean Tissue Retention
GH pulses are associated with preservation of lean mass during caloric restriction models.
Slow-Wave Sleep
Endogenous GH release peaks in deep sleep; evening dosing is studied for sleep-architecture endpoints.
Skin & Collagen
Downstream IGF-1 signaling is examined for dermal elasticity and fine-line endpoints.
Bone & Joint
GH-axis research includes bone mineral density and connective-tissue integrity measures.
High Selectivity
Minimal cortisol and prolactin cross-activation compared with earlier-generation secretagogues.
Reconstitution
- 5 mg vial + 2 mL bacteriostatic water = 2.5 mg/mL
- 10 mg vial + 4 mL bacteriostatic water = 2.5 mg/mL
- Both vials reconstitute to the same concentration, so unit counts stay identical
- 1 unit on a U-100 insulin syringe = 0.025 mg (25 mcg)
Suggested research protocol
- Route studied: subcutaneous, rotating sites across abdomen, outer thigh, and glute.
- Timing: evening, on an empty stomach 1–2 hours after the last meal, to align with the natural GH pulse.
- Cycle: 5 days on / 2 days off is the most common design; blocks of 3–6 months appear in longer studies.
- Use within 30 days of reconstitution; refrigerate.
Dosing Reference
| Week | Daily dose | U-100 units @ 2.5 mg/mL |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | 100 mcg | 4 units |
| Week 2 | 150 mcg | 6 units |
| Week 3 | 200 mcg | 8 units |
| Week 4+ | 250–300 mcg | 10–12 units |
Handling & Notes
- Mild transient redness at the administration site is the most commonly logged observation.
- A brief flush or warmth immediately after administration is reported and self-limiting.
- Widely characterized as one of the mildest compounds in the secretagogue class.
